HOW TO PRACTICE SELF-LOVE?

Reading time: 2 minutes

Practicing self-love can get really hard sometimes, right? But it’s really important to love yourself, to love your body which supports you in your highs and lows, to love your mind which functions so tirelessly and keeps you working every day, to love your beautiful soul. It is important to love your hair, acne on your face, your nose, your eyes, your personality, your dressing style because all these make you who you are, and you are important and you matter the most.

You must have come across a lot of articles which tells you about ways in which you can love yourself. But I would like you to understand why you should love yourself. Understanding that will make it easier. It sometime seems really easy to be harsh on yourself, but it does worse than it does good you. When you keep disapproving of yourself, it takes toll on your body. Take an example if you keep doing something without a break then you will feel tired right? Then criticizing yourself for really trivial thing is equally exhausting.

We all know it but we don’t really recognize the fact that there is no one like you. And if there is no one exactly like you then what is the point in comparing yourself with some else? But on the other hand, the art of loving yourself and accepting yourself will make you resilient. Sometimes this resilience will help you and accompany you through dark times. We all have been there in the dark and felt like we are alone, but we usually forget that we have ourselves with us all the time. Our mind is powerful enough to find the light in these times. All it need is some love and appreciation and we all have it in us we just have to take out from the old dusty cupboard dust it may be clean it a little and we are good to go.

As I said loving ourselves is in each one us and you can practice it, but as you haven’t touched it in so long it might take some time to get you there so here are some suggestions to start practicing self-love.

  • Tell yourself that you support yourself: Telling your inner voice that you are trying to understand yourself can be your first step in this journey of self-love. Supporting yourself is letting yourself make mistakes, and trying to find solution without just guilting and judging yourself for making the mistake in the first place.
  • Don’t compare yourself: Know that you are unique in your ways. And you are entitled to your pain and pleasures. Everyone has their share of both.
  • Accept yourself: Acceptance of any situation gives strength to deal with the situation, just like it accepting yourself will give strength to correct some of your flaws.
  • Focus on your qualities: We spent all our time with the same body and same thought it becomes easier looking at our flaws but rather than doing it this way you can put your energy in focusing on good attributes in yourself.
